Periodontal Disease

At Powdersville Family Dentistry we often refer to Periodontal Disease as “The Silent Killer of Teeth”. Periodontal Disease is often referred to as Gum Disease, Bone Loss, Perio or Pyria. Patients lose teeth due to Periodontal Disease as a result of bone loss around the tooth root. Just as a telephone pole needs soil to stay solidly anchored, so do teeth need good solid bone to avoid becoming loose. Periodontal Disease is often characterized by bleeding gums and bad breath, but otherwise may be painless. At all hygiene visits patients are checked for Periodontal Disease and if present advised of their treatment options.

Crowns and Veneers

When teeth are severely cracked or broken down, Crowns are often recommended. Crowns are a custom made protective “cap” designed to reinforce your tooth. A variety of esthetic and strong materials are available to make the new crown blend in perfectly.
